The 'Alarm, Timer and Stopwatch" extension is a browser extension that allows users to manage their schedules using alarm, stopwatch, and timer features. Each of these features can be accessed on its own tab within the extension. The alarm tab allows users to set multiple alarms, each of which can be configured as a one-time or weekly recurring alarm. The user can also select one or multiple days for each alarm. Additionally, each alarm can be configured to snooze the alert three times, with a 5-minute delay, to grab the user's attention. The entries in the alarm view can be enabled or disabled as needed. The stopwatch view allows users to set a stopwatch, which can be used to measure the time that has passed from the starting point. The stopwatch does not have any notifications, and is only used to measure time. The "lap" button allows users to measure the time between different events. Finally, the timer view allows users to set a timer that will notify the user when the pre-defined period is over. Like the alarm view, when the timer is finished, the user will receive a desktop notification to grab their attention.

FAQs

  1. What is the "Alarm, Timer and Stopwatch" add-on and how can I use it?

The "Alarm, Timer and Stopwatch" extension is a browser extension that brings the functionality of an alarm application on Android devices to your browser. It includes popular alarm, timer, and stopwatch features.

The alarm tab can be used to manage schedules. To create a new alarm, use the "+" button. In this view, you can set the time (hours and minutes) and the days for the alarm. The hour is in 24-hour format, and minutes can be set between 00 and 59. If no days are selected, the alarm will only go off once, at the specified time. If one or more days are selected, the alarm will go off once per week on each of the selected days.

There is also a snoozing option that allows the user to snooze the alarm sound if they do not dismiss the desktop notification when it first goes off. If snoozing is selected, the user will receive up to two additional sound notifications.

  2. What's new in this version?

    Please check the Logs section.

  3. How can I stop the sound notification?

When an alarm goes off or a timer finishes, the "Alarm, Timer and Stopwatch" extension displays a desktop notification for each occurrence. This notification is accompanied by an alarm sound. The sound can be dismissed by closing the desktop notification or opening the extension's popup. Currently, there is no option to disable the sound notification.

For alarms, if the snoozing option is enabled, the user will receive up to three sound notifications with a 5-minute delay if the desktop notification is not dismissed. Note that the sound will only be played if snoozing is enabled.

  4. Does this extension work if I close my browser window?

If all of your browser windows are closed but the browser is still running in the background, you should still receive notifications from the "Alarm, Timer and Stopwatch" extension. However, if the browser is terminated, you will not receive any notifications.

If the browser is restarted, the extension will resume sending notifications. Note that this only applies if the browser was terminated, not if all windows were simply closed.

To keep Google Chrome running in the background without any windows open, you can use the "Background App" setting in the browser's advanced settings. This setting allows certain apps and extensions to continue running in the background even when all Chrome windows are closed.

To enable this setting, follow these steps:

    • Open Google Chrome and click the three dots in the top-right corner to open the browser's menu.
    • Click "Settings" to open the settings page.
    • In the left menu, click "Advanced" to expand the advanced settings.
    • Under the "System" section, click "Background App" to open the background app settings.
    • Enable the toggle next to "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed" to allow apps and extensions to continue running in the background.

After enabling this setting, any apps or extensions that are allowed to run in the background will continue to do so even when all Chrome windows are closed. Note that this setting only applies to certain apps and extensions, and not all apps and extensions will be able to run in the background.

  5. The alarm sound is just too loud for me. Can I reduce the volume?

To reduce the volume of the alarm sound in the "Alarm, Timer and Stopwatch" extension, follow these steps:

    • Open the extension and navigate to the options page.
    • On the options page, locate the volume setting and use the slider to adjust the volume level. You can use a value between zero and 100, where zero means that the volume is muted.
    • Click "Save" to save your changes and apply the new volume setting.

After adjusting the volume in the extension's options page, the alarm sound will be played at the new, lower volume whenever an alarm goes off.

  6. Sometimes when an alarm fires, I want to stop the notification and the sound for now but get notified later about this event as a reminder. Is it possible?

Yes, on the notification for each event that this extension generates, there are two buttons to snooze the current event after 5 or 10 minutes (currently not supported on Firefox version).

  7. Can I export my alarms to another machine?

To export your preferences from the "Alarm, Timer and Stopwatch" extension, follow these steps:

    • Open the extension and navigate to the options page.
    • On the options page, click the "Export Preferences" button. This will generate a JSON file that contains your preferences for the extension.
    • Save the JSON file to your computer. You can use this file to import your preferences on any other machine that you want to use the extension on, or as a backup of your preferences.

To import your preferences on another machine, follow these steps:

    • Open the extension and navigate to the options page.
    • On the options page, click the "Import Preferences" button.
    • Select the JSON file that you exported from your original machine. The preferences in the file will be imported and applied to the extension.
